NYFW Wrap Up: Tons of Tulle

Throughout NYFW there was one trend we kept seeing, tulle. Some designers conceived simple looks while others went for more voluminous creations, like the ombre Oscar de la Renta. Tulle will definitely be a staple for Spring/Summer 2018.

NYFW Day 8: Colors of the Runway

Designers highlighted their collections with bright hues on the last day of NYFW. Starting with a vibrant red from Bonnie Young and ending with a pastel pink from Delpozo, we saw the colors of the rainbow, and beyond, on day 8. The styles varied greatly, but they all brought color to the runway.

Goodbye Cold, Hello Spring

With the arrival of Spring, we celebrate our favorite floral-inspired looks from the Spring 2017 collections of Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Marchesa, Fendi and Adam Selman.

Designer, Demna Gvasalia, brought bold patterns and fabrics to the Balenciaga runway. Models walked in oversized silhouette jackets and brightly colored spandex heels that transformed into full coverage pants. 

Designer, Sarah Burton flew with her studio team to Shetland Isles, Scotland with the hope to gain inspiration for the Spring 2017 Alexander McQueen collection. Scotish scenery, wild flowers and deserted beaches carried through to floral embroidered jeans, flounce covered skirts and wool knitted dresses.

Inspired by the changing stages of the sky, the Marchesa 2017 Spring runway was a palette of lilac, light blue and blush hues. These evening gowns fell into a realm of feminine fantasy with the use of layered organza, intricate beading and floral-printed embroidery.

Utilitarian stripes, athletic sock-like boots and silk lingerie-inspired pieces filled the Fendi Spring 2017 runway. Designers Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi mixed elements of sporty and floral to produce a unique novelty collection.

Adam Selman's collection is a combination of looks inspired by the disco era and illustrations from American Denim: A New Folk Art by Peter S. Beagle. The overlaying 70's themes resonate through the collection's full denim jumpsuits, wide-leg trousers and use of funky floral prints and D-ring belts.

NYFW Day 7: Feathers and Fringes

Designers took texture to the New York runway for Day 7. Thom Browne, Bibhu Mohapatra, Michael Kors and Marchesa added definition to their designs through plumes, tassels, embellishments and fringe.

The Thom Browne collection featured touch-sensitive ensembles designed with a variety of fabrics, furs, ribbons and fringes. Browne designed the collection to replicate a frozen pond, styling models with platform heels inspired by the look of an ice-skate.

The Fall/Winter Bibhu Mohapatra collection highlighted Mohapatra's love for the traditional feminine silhouette and dramatic evening gowns. His nude chiffon gown covered with intricate beading and ostrich feathers emphasized the romantic aesthetic of the collection. 

Aside from the outstanding number of well-known models, Michael Kors invited individuals of varied shapes and sizes to walk in his show. The collection itself was diverse featuring leopard dresses, traditional pant suits, fur overcoats and fringe-covered evening wear.

The Fall/Winter Marchesa collection featured color and texture this season. Inspired by Old Shanghai glamour, designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman constructed bold evening gowns with layered chiffon, draping bows, bright tassels and colored plumes.

Floral on the SAG Award's Red Carpet

On Sunday evening, Hollywood’s biggest stars hit the red carpet for the 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Floral was a noticeable trend on this year's red carpet. These six women transformed the traditional delicacy of the floral print to create bold and edgy looks. 

Emma Stone walked the red carpet in a stunning lingerie-inspired Alexander McQueen gown adorned in ornate floral printed lace and embroidery. The actress received the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her role in La La Land.

Hidden Figures actress Taraji P Henson arrived in a beautifully embellished Reem Acra gown accessorized with diamond Nirav Modi rings and earrings. The elements of lace, intricate beading, and choice of blush color create a romantic feel to Henson's look. 

Julia Louis Dreyfus accepted her second SAG award for Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role in the HBO series Veep. Dreyfus arrived wearing a black strapless Lela Rose gown printed with gold embroidered leaves, complementing gold earrings and a coiled necklace.

Sophia Bush wore a bold strapless Marchesa dress featuring heavy draped paneling revealing a three dimensional floral design within. Bush added drama to her look with a matching fuchsia eyeshadow.

Claire Foy accepted her award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, in a deep-v blush Valentino piece adorned in a green and white floral printed tulle. The black tulle adds edge to the contrasting conservative feel of the light pink and orange collared neckline.

Kaley Cuoco, nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, wore an ultra feminine Marchesa gown designed with pastel blush and baby blue tulle to create a true sense of delicacy.

Golden Globe Couples 2017

The 74th annual Golden Globes red carpet captured charming moments of Hollywood’s most well known and elite. Among all of the glam, four couples made quite an impression.

Model Chrissy Teigen accompanied husband John Legend to introduce the montage for his movie La La Land. Redefining the red carpet, Teigen arrived wearing an intricate laced Marchesa gown, Stuart Weitzman shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and a Jimmy Choo clutch. John Legend complemented his wife wearing a classic fitted Gucci tuxedo and bow tie.

Saturday Night Live anchor Brad Hall accompanied Golden Globes DJ, and wife, Julia Louis-Dreyfus in complimenting black and white ensembles. Julia Louis-Dreyfus wore a contrasting one shoulder Georges Chakra gown paired with Chopard jewels, Ferragamo shoes, and a Roger Vivier clutch. Hall wore a traditional black tuxedo and skinny tie with his signature rimmed glasses.

Actress Angela Bassett wore a pink flounce off-the-shoulder gown from the Spring 2017 collection of Christian Siriano and Erica Courtney jewels. Actor and husband Courtney B. Vance wore a dark grey John Varvatos tuxedo featuring a black shawl collar and skinny tie.

Actress Annette Bening arrived wearing an elegant long-sleeve Pamella Roland gown accessorizing with a gold clutch and red lip. Husband, actor, and filmmaker Warren Beatty complemented Bening's timeless look in a classic black Giorgio Armani tuxedo and bowtie.  

Bold is the New Black

Sunday night marked the 68th Emmy’s award ceremony and there was no shortage of brightly dressed stars. I can’t think of a better way to end NYFW than have award season fail right behind. Let’s be honest, the Red Carpet is the best part of any award show and the Emmy’s Red Carpet is no exception.  Here are my picks for the best (and boldest) dressed:

Day 7 of NYFW: Tropical Tinge

The shows took a plunge into the tropics on day 7 of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week where poppy brights stole the show. Anna Sui, Marchesa, Naeem Khan, Delpozo, and Veronica Beard embraced island illumination, with textures of their own, and incredible craftsmanship!
