Milan Fashion Week 2019: MENSWEAR vs WOMENswear silhouettes

Given that menswear elements are continuing to grace womenswear designs, we thought it would be visually interesting to highlight how they were reflected on the runways of Milan Fashion Week.

Blazers and Jackets : This year, Milan’s top designers presented a slew of must have blazers and jackets. We love that these layering pieces are so versatile and that they can be styled in many different ways beyond the office. For those who prefer a stronger more masculine look we recommend sticking with darker colors and oversized silhouettes. And for those who prefer a softer more feminine look try brighter hues in fabrics that drape and move with you.

Dresses and Skirts: The same can be said for skirts and dresses in regards to strong and masculine versus soft and feminine… Layering them with blazers and jackets is always a fashionable choice where you can manipulate the mood of your look through colors, shapes and textures.

Pants and Jumpsuits: It will be a sad day when jumpsuits are no longer in style so we are pleased that designers are still moving forward with these super comfortable and chic styles. Here, leather pants accentuate the strength of women, while, conversely, the softer materials highlight the beauty and softness of women.

Then vs Now: Golden Globes

The dresses worn on the red carpet at the Golden Globes made a loud statement. The men and women of Hollywood all wore black to show their support of the #MeToo movement. Here are some looks from past Golden Globes that resemble those worn this year.

Many celebrities have a very distinct style. Here we have taken looks from the New York Pre-Fall 2018 shows and paired them with the perfect celebrity.

The 1970's were a time of rich textures and bright colors. Shift dresses, flared jeans and bell sleeves were the epitome of the hippie decade. Here are some Spring/Summer 2018 looks that reflect the boho-esque trends of the 70's.

While I do not care for matching pajama type sets, structured styles give a smart, stylish look. These matching sets are all fresh and modern. It's a look that many celebrities have been wearing and definitely a look that will carry through Spring/Summer 2018.

The little black dress is a staple in every woman's closet. This classic piece has been interpreted many different ways over the years. On day 2 of NYFW, designers showed us their take on the LBD. All these looks sport a feminine silhouette, each with a different twist.

Taylor Hill rocked the runway during the 2017 Anna Sui NYFW Fall/Winter Fashion Show in a sheer black dress. When it hit the stores, production had added lining and shortened the sleeves to better suit the consumer market.

Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana gave their runway a different twist by having up and coming celebrities walk their show instead of typical “It girls.” Like Anna Sui, D&G added lining to the sheer dress making it more practical for consumers.

Prada never disappoints, however, when researching e-commerce sites, we were unable to find any of the printed skirts from the runway show. Nonetheless, the printed top can be found at Bergdorf’s.

The Row

The Olsen twins showcased their simple yet elegant ensembles during The Row’s runway show in February. This Neyton Long Leather Trenchcoat in Sand appears to have not gone under any production changes and can be purchased in the same cut and color.

Issey Miyake’s designs turn heads on the runway and in the streets. A knee-length version of this burgundy jacket was paired with a matching belt during NYFW while a shorter version was released for purchase to the public.
