Then vs Now: 90's

The 1990's were known for trends such as denim on denim, slip dresses, and grunge. Here are some Spring/Summer 18 looks that definitely used inspiration from the 90's.

Then vs Now: 80's

The 1980's were bold and bright. Fishnets, shoulder pads and vibrant patterns were some of the iconic trends of the decade. Here are some Spring/Summer 18 looks that give off an 80's vibe.

THEN VS NOW: 70's

The 1970's were a time of rich textures and bright colors. Shift dresses, flared jeans and bell sleeves were the epitome of the hippie decade. Here are some Spring/Summer 2018 looks that reflect the boho-esque trends of the 70's.

Then vs now: 60's

The 60's were a time known for high waisted silhouettes, colorful prints, and breaking fashion traditions. Hemlines became shorter and women's clothing became less matronly. Here are some Spring/Summer 2018 looks that bring back the styles of the 60s.

Then & Now: Spring/Summer 1998 v. 2018

These modern Spring/Summer 2018 looks show how designers have maintained their integrity throughout the years. In the past two decades, trends and styles have transformed, yet these collections show how they remain true to their aesthetic while adopting new design elements.

Fashion inspired by art

These Spring/Summer 2018 runway looks drew inspiration from works of art. Classic paintings from famous artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Jackson Pollock have been transformed into garments worn today.

Inspirations

Designers gain inspiration from natural elements quite often. From Chanel's waterfall skirt to Oscar de la Renta's gradient night sky tulle, these looks all mirror a piece of nature.

Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion week has come to an end and we've collected all of the common trends that ruled the runway. Here are the looks from Paris that incorporated similar components.

LEATHER- Many designers used leather to create sleek looks and unique statement pieces such as a pencil skirt, jumpsuit, trench coat, lace up pants, and high-waisted shorts.

LONG & FLOWY- These looks flowed down the runway. Designers used romantic silks and chiffons to create effortless fluid movement.

RUFFLED TEXTURES- While tulle has been a prominent element during Fashion Week 2017, designers also used ruffles and textures to add voluminous dimension to their creations.

EXAGGERATED PANT SUITS- Here we see how designers transformed pant suits with exaggerated elements.  Akris used oversized appliqués, Alexander McQueen executed oversized shoulders, Givenchy showcased a cinched waist, Balmain incorporated bold and contrasting prints and John Galliano applied many different design aspects including pleats, ruffles, and a longline blazer.

Milan Fashion Week

During Milan Fashion Week, we saw reoccurring trends such as metallics from New York and asymmetrical silhouettes from London. While these trends are circulating internationally, each designers' interpretation has been unique.

NYFW Wrap Up: Tons of Tulle

Throughout NYFW there was one trend we kept seeing, tulle. Some designers conceived simple looks while others went for more voluminous creations, like the ombre Oscar de la Renta. Tulle will definitely be a staple for Spring/Summer 2018.

NYFW Day 5: Breaking Barriers

Prabal Gurung is known for his political statements during fashion week. In past shows, he has demonstrated his support for women's rights. Yesterday, he did just that by including models of every shape, size and color. Sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid walked the runway along with plus size and transgender models. By using such diversified women, Gurung is truly breaking down barriers on the runway.

NYFW Day 3: Bold Stripes

NYFW Day 3 brought us bold looks featuring stripes. Designers showcased their patterns in different directions, colors and sizes. Whether the stripes are vertical, horizontal, asymmetrical, or every which way, they'll be a hit for Spring/Summer 2018.

Wearing White After Labor Day

Don't put away all of your whites...  These looks from NYFW Fall 2017 (available for purchase now) show us how we can incorporate white into our Fall/Winter wardrobe.
