Prabal Gurung incorporated various outwear textiles throughout his 70's Asian inspired 2019 F/W collection. From evening gowns to voluminous layers there was a unifying explosion of colors, textures and lavish materials flowing down the runway.
Last Wednesday night, I was invited to preview the brilliantly gifted Zac Posen's Fall/Winter 2017 collection. A combination of fantasy and sophistication, the collection featured A-line gowns, modernized pantsuits, floral prints, and leather-inspired fabrics.
Known to be inspired by the traditional woman , Posen shared, “This season I married my signature structures with the paradox of fluidity. Referencing the mid-1940’s, I wanted to give a message of elegance and hope".
Luxe fabrics flowed in deeply saturated tones including midnight blues, deep wines, and dark burgundies. Attention to detail is seen through Posen's use of velvet ribbons, flounce and beading to create structured, yet feminine, three dimensional silhouettes. Here are a few of my favorite pieces from the Fall/Winter 2017 collection.
Designers are experimenting with one color from head to toe this season. Calvin Klein, Pamella Roland, Cushnie et Ochs, LANYU and Jason Wu are a few of many designers pigmenting the runway with bold hues.
Raf Simons, Chief Creative Officer for Calvin Klein, explained the collection was inspired by both the diversity and strength of America. The designs were individually contradictory, but complimentary as a whole, with the use of bold hues and color-blocking.
Pamella DeVos, of Pamella Roland, designed the Fall 2017 collection around her love for darker jewel toned colors including garnet, berry, wine and aubergine. Inspired by American painter Mark Rothko, and his use of colors, DeVos was eager to create a fluid and artistic story on the 2017 NYFW runway.
The Fall 2017 Cushnie et Ochs collection aired sophistication and elegance through clean cut designs, simple silhouettes and a colorful palette. Designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs created the brand nine years ago and continue to design strong and daring, yet upscale, jump suits and body con dresses for women.
The LANYU Fall/Winter 2017 collection drew inspiration from designer, Lan Yu's, own childhood memories of her mother's hometown of Suzhou. Influenced by the city's architecture, canals and natural serenity, the collection features hues of soothing mint and sky pink evolving into darker earth tones.
Celebrating his brand's 10th anniversary, Jason Wu's collection reflected confidence and stability through elegant cocktail attire, modern pantsuits and formal daywear. Wu showed a daring red monochromatic look -- a stark contrast to the remainder of his neutral colored Fall/Winter collection.
