NYFW Spring 2017 - Day 3

Texture is the new accessory whether it be appliqués, fringe, knits or lace. These textures need no assistance in making a statement and regardless of the season, texture is a versatile way to add a twist to any outfit.  These four looks from Novis, Jason Wu, Akris and Tanya Taylor are my Day 3 runway favorites!

Style Tip: Be sure to keep accessories to a subtle minimum to avoid competing elements -- and looking over styled.

NYFW Spring 2017 - Day 2

MIDI'S

During day 2 of NYFW, printed midi's owned the runway. Midi’s are a great staple piece for any occasion, they are so effortless, yet have the ability to give off a clean polished look.  I love these four midi's in particular, by Supima Design, Brock, Ulla Johnson and Marissa WebB -- the airy fabrics and soft prints evoke feelings of vintage femininity.

Style Tip: Take these midi's from day to night by layering on jewels that are as light in weight as they are in color so as to create a tone on tone shimmer.

NYFW Spring 2017- DAY 1

In anticipation for what’s to come this New York Fashion Week, I thought I’d start my list of daily favorites -- and kicking off the list are jumpsuits which have superseded the long standing maxi dress trend and transformed it to something a bit edgier.  Jumpsuits can be just as versatile as your favorite pair of jeans or your LBD. My personal favorites from Day 1 of NYFW are by Nomia, Escada, Trina Turk and Rachel Comey.

Style Tip: Jumpsuits are great because they can be either casual or dressy. My favorite way to dress down a jumpsuit is to wear it with a great pair of flatforms, sneakers, booties or wedges and my favorite way to dress up a jumpsuit is to pair it with a killer heel and a long silk tassel necklace.

RIP NYFW - Saint Laurent just killed the game

Last night at the Los Angeles Palladium Theatre, Hedi Slimane showcased his Fall 2016 Men's RTW and Pre-Fall Women's collections for Saint Laurent...  A chronicle of jaw-dropping and stunningly lavish 1970s David Bowie inspired designs.  Lanky models graced the runway decked out in glitter makeup, blunt-bangs and rocker-chic hairdos.

Slimane kicked off Fashion Week with this year's trends of plaids, animal prints, velvets, shearlings and power suiting.  Autumn/Fall 2016 Fashion Week just began, and ended, with this beautiful collection!

Provocative, individualistic and rebellious are just some adjectives that describe John Varvatos's RTW 2016 Fall show.  The designer dismantled his Bowery CBCG's store, creating a labyrinth of rooms with models interspersed throughout, including in the dressing rooms and amidst mannequins, the first of which were in coffins.  Rock n' Roll classics played in each room, the last being an angelic white room dedicated to the iconic David Bowie.

Although the theatrics were monumental, Varvatos's collection was direct and true.  His diverse textures, fabrics, and ornamentation suits customers of different ages and professions (pun intended).  Double-breasted suits, elongated cardigans, and tuxedo jackets in abstract prints, shearlings, calfskins, and jacquards blended classics with the exotic.   Varvatos deserves a round of applause for his contemporary take on a tangled and refreshing New York fashion show.

Carmen Marc Valvo: Spring 2016

With a staple color palette and admirable craftsmanship Carmen Marc Valvo’s Spring 2016 collection redefines the classic cocktail dress and timeless sports jacket, while playing on the enduring elegance of the evening gown. The men's pieces provide for a swanky tidbit aside the women's designs. Ebony, ivory, and poppy, dragonfly print, and swans make for one breath-taking collection.

Day 8 of NYFW: Red, White, Faces of Fashion

Day 8 of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week featured beautiful faces on the runway, other than those of the models.  Marc Jacobs' eccentric red, white, and blue collection, similar to the color scheme of Ralph Lauren, included gowns, skirts, and more with illustrated faces bursting with a wide array of expressions. J. Mendel, Ralph Lauren, Katie Ermilio, and Calvin Klein showcased sleek white pieces with dynamic dimensions.

Day 7 of NYFW: Tropical Tinge

The shows took a plunge into the tropics on day 7 of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week where poppy brights stole the show. Anna Sui, Marchesa, Naeem Khan, Delpozo, and Veronica Beard embraced island illumination, with textures of their own, and incredible craftsmanship!

Day 6 of NYFW: Fairytale Frocks

Fairytale frocks stole the spotlight on day 6 of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week with frills, feathers, and more. The gorgeous gowns by Vera Wang, Sophie Theallet, Rodarte, Oscar de la Renta, Alice + Olivia, and Badgley Mischka showcased beautiful ribbon, a touch of sparkle, a little bit of lace, and a lot of flounce!

Day 5 of NYFW: Playful Patterns

Bursts of color and bold patches and patterns turned all heads to the runway on day five of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week when the looks made a playful switch. Libertine, Jeremy Scott, Jill Sander Navy, and Thom Browne dressed their models in toy-like designs with patches resembling refrigerator magnets and patterns reminiscent of video game screens. Oh, and did we mention bunny ears?
