RIP NYFW - Saint Laurent just killed the game
Last night at the Los Angeles Palladium Theatre, Hedi Slimane showcased his Fall 2016 Men's RTW and Pre-Fall Women's collections for Saint Laurent... A chronicle of jaw-dropping and stunningly lavish 1970s David Bowie inspired designs. Lanky models graced the runway decked out in glitter makeup, blunt-bangs and rocker-chic hairdos.
Slimane kicked off Fashion Week with this year's trends of plaids, animal prints, velvets, shearlings and power suiting. Autumn/Fall 2016 Fashion Week just began, and ended, with this beautiful collection!
Rock is Dead? #LongLiveRock John Varvatos RTW 2016 collection NYFW
Provocative, individualistic and rebellious are just some adjectives that describe John Varvatos's RTW 2016 Fall show. The designer dismantled his Bowery CBCG's store, creating a labyrinth of rooms with models interspersed throughout, including in the dressing rooms and amidst mannequins, the first of which were in coffins. Rock n' Roll classics played in each room, the last being an angelic white room dedicated to the iconic David Bowie.
Although the theatrics were monumental, Varvatos's collection was direct and true. His diverse textures, fabrics, and ornamentation suits customers of different ages and professions (pun intended). Double-breasted suits, elongated cardigans, and tuxedo jackets in abstract prints, shearlings, calfskins, and jacquards blended classics with the exotic. Varvatos deserves a round of applause for his contemporary take on a tangled and refreshing New York fashion show.

New Year, New Generation!
The 2016 season has reevaluated, revolutionized and revamped the status of "Bright Old Things", by focusing on and catering to the Baby Boomer market with high disposable incomes and minds of their own. The past decade was ruled by Millennials with hashtags, fast fashion, and impatience, but this season age is irrelevant. It is finally time to pay homage to the powerful and elegantly mature older generation! The word youth is but a euphemism for relevant and adaptable, the excitement behind experiencing something new and is simply a state of mind.
Given the average model age of 17, Designer Alexis Mabille admiringly played with age, creating a Top Model reunion with legends such as Carmen Kass, (age 37) Estelle Lefébure, (age 49) and Debra Shaw (age 39). Mabille described his decision as a "tribute to timeless beauty" and delivered a refreshing and relatable catwalk, redefining the obsession with youthfulness.
Other designers such as Céline and Kate Spade have also caught wind of the "silver revolution", incorporating legends such as Iris Apfel and Joan Didion into their editorial and advertising campaigns. Speaking of Iris Apfel, I was lucky enough to style the lovely and quirky Iris when I was Fashion Director at Avenue magazine. Her wisdom and personality were infectious... Iris is leading the #silverrevolution by storm.
Fashion Icon, Rock Legend
A bigger than life star and one incredibly talented soul, David Bowie was far more than a fashion icon and rock legend. Challenger, trendsetter, industry leader, Bowie has left his mark on this world in the shape of a lightening bolt and has stolen the hearts of millions. I am so thankful for having assisted on his Thursday's Child music video way back when -- he is a legend who will forever hold a special part of my heart.
